Seed Sowing

by Jerry Senn

In Jesus’ parable of the farmer sowing seed with hope of enjoying a good harvest, we understand he wants his followers to embrace this as our mission. The seed is the word and the soils are human hearts. Today we are commissioned to share that seed understanding the nature of human hearts.

One of the important lessons we learn from this parable (Matthew 13; Mark 4 & Luke 8) is that it takes time and patience for seed to mature and bear fruit.

When any man sows the seed (the love of Jesus), he can’t and shouldn’t look for quick results. There is never any haste in the way seed germinates and pushes through to produce fruit. All plants are not the same, all seed works within the heart and minds in its own time.

It takes a long, long time before an acorn becomes a beautiful oak tree. And it may take a long, long time before a seed of truth germinates in the heart of a man or woman. But, our mission is to sow, not to feel responsible for results. One’s own heart will make all the difference.

We live in an age which looks for quick results, but in the sowing of the seed (the love of Jesus) we must sow in patience and sow in hope, and sometimes we must leave the harvest to the years.
