Thom S Rainer reports on data from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association of 2020 ranking the top ten most popular (best selling) translations of the English Bible.
1. New International Version (NIV)
2. King James Version (KJV)
3. New King James Translation (NKJV)
4. New Living Translation (NLT)
5. English Standard Version (ESV)
6. Christian Standard Bible (CSB)
7. The Message (Message)
8. The International Reader’s Version (NirV)
9. New American Standard Bible (NASB)
10. Reina Valera (RV) (Spanish Translation)
These rankings have remained amazingly stable since 2011. However, the NASB dropped two spots. But the other translations dropped or gained no more than one spot. The CSB was the HCSB (LIfeWay) in 2011.
The TNIV (Today’s New International Version) was discontinued in 2011.
The NLT (New Living Translation), known as “the quiet Bible” continues to gain attention, but is now ranked 3 in the rankings. I have begun reading it some and am very impressed with the clarity it provides.
