“Those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!” (2 Cor 5:17).
Can we honestly say that about our own lives? Paul also said, speaking of Jesus: “Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. He made himself nothing, he took the humble position as a slave and appeared in human form.” (Phil 2:5-9).
Christians have a heavy obligation to allow Jesus to change us — to empty our hearts of pride and the spirit of competition.
Two of Jesus’ disciples once asked him to have the highest positions when the kingdom was established, to which he replied, greatness comes to the ones who become the most willing servants (Matt 20:20-28).
F B Meyer wrote: “I used to think that God’s gifts were on shelves one above the other; and that the taller we grew in Christian character the easier we could reach them. I now find that God’s gifts are on shelves one beneath the other; and that it is not a question of growing taller but of stooping lower; and that we have to go down, always down, to get His best gifts.”
Faithful followers of Jesus will strive very hard to realize we’re saved to serve.
“The greatest reward for serving others is the satisfaction found in your own heart.”
