No one I know can remember a storm in the North Carolina mountains like Helene. It may indeed be known as “the storm of the century.” There are too many graphic images and reports to deny this.
Some may be inclined to ask why a sovereign and loving God would allow such a tragic and harmful event to occur. They would argue, he is either not loving or without power to control his creation.
First, our thought processes—our feeble minds—are not capable of understanding God’s thoughts or his methods of accomplishing his own will. Only he knows what’s best and acts accordingly.
Second, in the final analysis, man doesn’t, in his human nature, know what is best for himself. Left to ourselves, without God’s control and divinely revealed revelation, no one knows why we’re here or where he is going.
Finally, a study of the history of man’s existence on earth shows that there is always an upside to every calamity, even terrible events like Helene. Maybe it’s too early to consider that this storm could have a bright side, or result in something positive in our world as a whole.
For those who claim to trust that Almighty God is in control of his creation at all times, we must consider that He always knows what he is doing and what he is allowing to happen for a higher purpose—His purpose!
As a loving and sovereign Father, he works his will without our input, but always for noble and righteous purposes.
Someone has written something wise enough for us consider:
“Grapes must be crushed to make wine.
Diamonds form under pressure.
Olives are pressed to release oil.
Seeds grow in darkness.
Whenever you feel crushed, under pressure, pressed, or in darkness
You’re in a powerful place of transformation.
Trust the process!
Trust God.”
