In Romans, chapter 8, Paul urges sincere, saved believers to pursue an entirely new way of thinking. This will demand turning away from our old ways of seeing or evaluating life.
A new day has dawned!!! We’re no longer under condemnation and have experienced a new joy and confident way of seeing and thinking about our lives and our Lord.
What Paul is saying is tremendously valuable and practical because our mindset makes all the difference in the way we live daily. If our daily focus is not properly directed we live in a storm-tossed world, driven by the wind and waves.
One ship drives east and another drives west
With the selfsame winds and blow,
‘Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales
Which tells us the way to go.
Like the winds of the sea are the ways of fate,
As we voyage along through life–
‘Tis the sail
That decides the goal.
And not the calm or the strife.

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind of the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”
