Christ, Our Example

by Jerry Senn

Of course Jesus came into the world to save us from our sins. His ministry was to sacrifice himself for our transgressions by taking our place under the wrath of God by dying on the cross.

His virgin birth was an ultimate example of humility—our Creator became one of us in order to provide a way to God, though what we deserved was eternal separation from Him.

In his coming he demonstrated an attitude for us to strive to live up to, a humble and sacrificial heart—a spirit of service. He not only died in our place, but exemplified the attitude he hopes will reside in each of us, as a saved people. How are we doing in our response to him?

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness,
and being found as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even the death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.”

(Philippians 2:5-11)
