“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm 103:1-5).
Our thanks to God must be personal as an intimate response within our hearts. It is an intentional overflow from within which finds us on our knees in humble gratitude.
First, he has forgiven us of “all” our “iniquity.” Our sins have been cast into the deepest part of the sea, never to be remembered by God.
Second, he has healed all our diseases. He possibly means his provisions for painful inner struggles, such as stress, confusion and despair, things which impact our whole body.
Third, he has redeemed our lives allowing us to avoid the pits and traps of Satan. Redemption brings us into a place of rest and peace, good mental health and confidence.
Fourth, he crowns us with his love and mercy. His love is poured into our hearts (See: Romans 5:5).
Fifth, he gives reason for us to be satisfied, at peace, so our hearts may be renewed to life, as when an injured eagle is healed to a renewed, youthful, vigorous spirit.
“Oh give thanks to the Lord;
call upon his name; make known his deeds
among the people. Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell all his wonderful works! Glory to his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!”
(Psalm 105:1-3).
